The Oktoberfest is upon us, one of the largest festivals in the world that attracts as many as 6 million travellers from all over. Held each year in Munich, Germany, this is the world’s largest beer festival and annual fair, celebrating Bavarian culture with different blends and brews of beer and if you plan to be a part of all the fun and madness, you may want to keep few things in mind.
Book as early as possible
This cannot be stressed upon enough. People make hotel and travel bookings for Oktoberfest upto a year before. Booking tickets early will not only mean that you’ll get the best seats in the house, but will also mean that you won’t have to hassle at the last minute. From hotels to flights, you can save up a lot if you book early. Did you know that the hotel fares go upto as much as Euro-350 during the peak festival time? You have to make sure that you research well to get the best deals or you’ll end up spending too much on this fest.
Stay near the fest
You will end up saving a lot of time and money if you don’t have to locally travel too much. Besides this, it’s always better to stay close by when you know you’re going to be drinking heavily. For this you are going to have to book as easily as possible so that all the nearby accommodation options don’t get booked. You will thank yourself for taking out time and booking early; when your hotel is a mere 5-10 minutes’ walk from the festival.
Strategize your visit
Oktoberfest lasts for over two weeks and if you wish to avoid crowds, it’s better to visit on the weekdays. There are fewer local people and fewer tourists and you will be able to enjoy the different beers and different cultural activities that are being held in various tents.
There are different beer tents that are put up here and you may want t visit several of them; exploring their native brew and be a part of all the colour and camaraderie of the entertainers.
Käfer Wiesn-Schänke Löwenbräu-Festhalle, Schottenhamel, Winzerer Fahndl, Schutzen-Festzelt, and Marstall and so on are some of the big tents that you absolutely should visit on your trip to Oktoberfest. You will notice that not only the beer and the snacks are different in each tent; their theme and ambience are different as well; and it will be like entering into different new zones when you visit each of these tents.
