The Maldives is a collection of gorgeous islands that are surrounded by the stunning turquoise ocean. It is home to some of the most glamorous resorts that you'll find anywhere…
Thailand holidays never go out of style. Whether you crave sand, gorgeous sunsets, amazing beach clubs, or incredible food, Thailand has it all. With a huge range of accommodation from simple luxury through to breath-taking villa resorts with private pools, there are Thailand holiday packages to suit just about everyone. But when is the best time to visit Thailand? Between November and March is usually considered the best time to visit, however every season has its own advantages.
What is the weather like in Thailand?
Thailand has a tropical climate with three main seasons: winter or the dry season, shoulder season which can be very hot and humid, and the monsoon season when you might experience torrential rain. If you enjoy a good thunderstorm, monsoon season in Thailand will not disappoint!
High season
Dry and high season is from November to March, and the days around Christmas and New Year are often extremely busy. Cool is a relative term, but this is when temperatures are moderate, which makes it the most popular time for visiting. There is up to 9 hours of sunshine per day, and temperatures are usually around 32 to 36 degrees. Thai weather is always warm, but at this time of year it is still comfortable enough for sightseeing, shopping and whatever else you feel like doing.
Nights are still pleasant, although the temperature might drop just enough to require a light wrap. This may be the best time for visiting the Thai capital, Bangkok, and experiencing its vibrant restaurant and bar scene, the historical attractions of the old part of the city, cruising the river or shopping at the enormous Chatuchak weekend market.
Shoulder season
Shoulder season offers the benefits of fewer tourists and lower prices, but from March to June the temperatures climb, and Thailand can verge on uncomfortably hot. However, this is a still a good time to relax by the beach or at one of Thailand’s many beautiful resorts. There is still plenty of beach club action and most good hotels and restaurants are air-conditioned so you will be comfortable during your stay. If lounging by a pool surrounded by tropical flowers and greenery is your aim, then this season will deliver.
Monsoon season
Monsoon season lasts from around July to October, and in many places, there will be daily rain. The good news is that the rain tends to be intense and quite brief. The storms can be spectacular, and if you don’t mind an occasional warm downpour, this is still a good time to visit as hotels have lower occupancy and there can be some great bargains to be had.
Although monsoon season is generally regarded as the low season, as Thailand becomes increasingly popular, even this period still attracts a lot of holiday traffic. There are also some important Thai public holidays in these months and Thai families often travel to the beach during this time.
