Twinkle, Toronto

The Distillery Historic Market in Toronto brings the spirit of Christmas alive by hosting one of the most memorable Christmas extravaganzas in the world. The atmosphere is rendered festive by twinkling overhead lights, covering the stunning Victorian era buildings in the vicinity as well as pleasing sounds of carollers reverberating in the air. As many as 400 free performances can be enjoyed in the market around Christmas ranging from singing and dancing to cultural performances, especially on Traditional Tuesdays, Classical Thursdays, and Pop/Variety Saturdays. The enormous 50-foot white spruce tree presented at the market is decorated with more than 40,000 lights, 800 Christmas balls as well as a 1.5km long gold ribbon.

 

Frankfurt Christmas Market, Birmingham, UK

Bringing a little bit of Germany to the UK, Birmingham’s Frankfurt Christmas Market is a crowd favourite in the country and around. As many as 80 stalls, many of them highlighting the German food, culture, art and craft cater to visitors. Everything from traditional Christmas Stollen (a German Christmas cake) to Glühwein (a drink made of red wine and various spices and sugar) feature in the market, transporting visitors to a Christmas fair in Germany. Besides, several soulful and entertaining performances are put together for the entertainment of visitors, including theatre workshops, choirs and carol performances.

 

Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park, New York

There’s plenty that is exciting about this open-air market organised in the famous Bryant Park of New York. More than 100 kiosks featuring arts and handicrafts from around the world are set up for the entertainment of guests in this European-style market. From casual on-the-go eateries to refined fine dining restaurants, an array of food kiosks keep the patrons well-fed throughout the course of their stay. The background of the park, with its impressive Josephine Shaw Lowell Fountain and the Le Carrousel cause much excitement amongst the crowds. The main highlight of the market for families, however, is 17,000-square-foot outdoor ice skating rink that is free to use.

 

Stanley Plaza Finnish Christmas Wonders

Hong Kong’s Stanley Plaza is fashioned after a Finnish Christmas Market and this stunning market sees footfall averaging at as many as 3,00,000 visitors over two weekends leading to the festival. Over 100 shopping, gifting and food stalls are expected to feature at the market this year, including signature Finnish cuisines and goods. Don’t miss checking out the life-size Finnish traditional Yule Goat and the 7 meters tall “Home of the Elves”. Pet lovers needn’t leave their furry friends home as the Pets Christmas Market located at Murray House will also debut at the plaza this year.

 

Bangkok: Magnifique Christmas Market

Replicating the festive atmosphere and grandeur of a European Christmas market Sofitel Bangkok Sukhumvit will organise Magnifique Christmas Market at their newly opened rooftop bar and brasserie- Belga. The guests are treated to an array of à la carte dishes, including lobster bisque, cassoulet, foie gras with brioche and crêpes Suzette, as well as live DJ entertainment, carol singing and a joyous visit by Santa Claus.
