During the pandemic, there will have been many travellers who yearned for a Thailand holiday, missing its incredible combination of the friendly people, warm weather, fascinating culture, and world class cuisine. The tourism industry, together with those planning holidays, are delighted that Thailand Covid entry requirements have finally eased to make it easier for tourism to get underway again.

New entry requirements for Thailand holidays from 1st May 2022

In a meeting on 22nd April, the Thai government agreed to the easing of the entry rules, with the new entry requirements applicable from 1st May 2022 onwards. These developments are a significant evolution in post pandemic travel news.

The new rules state that people visiting Thailand who are fully vaccinated do not have to be quarantined in a hotel. Vaccinated travellers are now no longer required to take a RT-PCR test before they travel or when they arrive in Thailand. If you’re fully vaccinated, you need a certificate to prove that they have had the necessary vaccinations at least 14 days before travelling, this is applicable to everyone over 18 years old. Once vaccinated visitors have moved through the checkpoints for immigration on arrival in Thailand, they are free to go where they wish.

Everyone needs to apply online for a Thailand Pass before they travel, and all tourists also need valid health insurance, with the minimum coverage equivalent to US$10,000, which has been reduced from US$20,000. This is a helpful reduction in the overall costs of travel to Thailand.

Do you need a Covid vaccine for Thailand holidays?

You do not need to be vaccinated against Covid-19 to visit Thailand. However, there are different regulations for unvaccinated travellers.

If you are unvaccinated, then you no longer have to undergo a RT-PCR test before you travel or when you arrive in the kingdom. However, without a vaccine, travellers will have to quarantine for five days at an appropriate hotel when they arrive in Thailand. This booking should be prepaid, and the travellers must upload the details of this booking when they are applying for their Thailand Pass.  On the fifth day of their stay at the hotel, they will need to have a RT-PCR test and demonstrate that they are not positive for Covid.

There will be an exception for travellers who can show that they have taken a RT-PCR test no more than 72 hours before departure, and that the test is negative. This proof needs to be uploaded via their Thailand Pass. Once this proof is provided, these travellers are also able to go wherever they wish.

All travellers are advised that they should follow health and safety regulations wherever possible, regardless as to whether they are vaccinated or not.
