The ‘Silicon Valley of India’, the city of Bangalore in the state of Karnataka remains known for many things – its pleasant weather, as a hub for a number of Indian start-ups, its sumptuous selection of authentic South Indian dishes and of course the clean, sweet and delicate brew, popularly called the filter coffee. If North India runs on ‘chai’, the southern part of the country relies heavily on the filter coffee for that much needed kick of caffeine.

If you find yourself in Bangalore any time soon, here’s where you can find the best version of this local favourite.

Hatti Kappi

Originating in 2009, Hatti Kappi has been winning hearts with its authentic filter coffee ever since. Having several outlets across the city, the award-winning chain is the go-to place for the locals to get their daily dose of caffeine. The Mysuru kappi and the Bella Kappi remain the most sold out versions of the filter coffee. Additionally, the outlet sells lip-smacking snacks such as Ambode, Maddur Vada, Hatti Samosa, Kaapi dips along with a range of delicious shakes and cold coffees.

Brahmin’s Coffee Bar

An iconic establishment that came into existence in 1965, the Brahmin’s Coffee Bar has been dishing out heart-winning South Indian staples to its loyal customer base. The menu is limited and features only 5-6 items including the filter coffee. It is mandatory to grab a cup for washing down mouth-watering idli, vada, dosas and kesari bhaath. If you don’t mind long queues (though their service is exceptionally fast) and no-frills ambiance, Brahmin’s Coffee Bar with impress you with its minimalist vibe and authentic flavours.

Indian Coffee House

Founded in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, the Indian Coffee House has registered a strong presence throughout the country with over 400 stores in existence. In Bangalore however, the popular chain has achieved a cult statues, with locals lining up to grab their cup of filter coffee, the most famous beverage. The filter coffee served here is particularly frothy and teems up exceptionally well with their in-house cutlets and bread omelette.

Vidyarthi Bhawan

Any mention of legendary places in Bangalore that know their filter coffee well cannot omit Vidyarthi Bhawan, established in 1943 and serving a slice of old Bangalore through their food and beverages. Started with the intention of feeding school students food at a low cost, Vidyarthi Bhawan has evolved into a humble eatery that remains much loved for its crispy dosas as well as its strong filter coffee. Expect a long queue, bare benches and a narrow space to sit; but all this will be worth when you will taste their heavenly coffee of which you are sure to demand a copious amount.

Kalmane Koffees

A true delight for coffee lovers, Kalmane Koffees serve their visitors a cup of authentic brew, made of coffee leaves grown in their own plantations in Chikmagalur, Karnataka. They have multiple outlets in Bangalore and each of them attracts a large number of people looking to taste its special flavours of filter coffee – the Nelyani Gold (cardamom flavoured filter coffee) and Kaapi Mocha.
