If you’re travelling to India for the first time, chances are that the beach destination of Goa is on your bucket list. In fact, frequent travellers to the country also…
There is a lot more to Goa than just beaches. For instance, Goa’s incredible food has attained legendary status. While there are plenty of restaurants that specialise in different global cuisines, the ones which serve authentic Goan delicacies are the clear favourites with foreign tourists. Here, we have listed some of the restaurants that have earned great reviews for specialising in Goan cuisine.
Venite, Panjim
The place is a must visit for everyone who hopes to experience the authentic taste of Goan cuisine. It is old but the ambience is surprisingly refreshing. With dim lighting and beautiful artwork and graffiti on the walls, the restaurant’s unique décor almost overshadows the fare being served here; and considering how delicious the food is, it surely is no mean feat! Do try out the mushroom pepper fry; it is among the best preparations you will find in Goa. Fish curry is another favourite with tourists here.
Andron, Nachinola
You will love this place run by an ex-serviceman. The restaurant is in Nachinola, a peaceful friendly village that’s not very far from the boisterous tourist belt of Calangute and Baga. At Andron, you can have the time of your life while enjoying spicy Goan food. Meat dishes are the big favourites at this restaurant. The huge crowds here also speak volumes about the popularity of this place.
Mum’s Kitchen, Panjim
Smack-dab in the middle of the city, this restaurant is widely considered the finest place for homely Goan food. The menu is pretty vast; a large number of vegetarian options make it a particular favourite among the vegans! But that doesn’t mean there is not much for the meat lovers. In fact, they have this wonderful dish – the fried Bombay duck, which is truly exceptional and a must try.
Bhatti Village, Nerul
You would be hard pressed to find an eating experience that matches the one at Bhatti Village. Located in Nerul Village, the restaurant may be a bit hard to trace considering its location in the narrow by-lanes of the village, but the effort is definitely worth the food served here. It is a simple eatery with no fancy décor; the delicious food takes care of everything. There are no set menus here; the owner makes recommendations based on what you may like. The wine selection is surprisingly good too.
