Dubai is undoubtedly one of the most exciting and interesting places to visit in the entire world. It has a bit of everything, and even though not many associate Dubai with wildlife, there is plenty of it to excite you! The wildlife of this place is diverse; much like itself and you can have a swell time getting a closer look at it.
Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary
This wildlife sanctuary is perhaps the best place to be in Dubai if wildlife excites you! There are as many as 67 species of birds here and people from across the globe come over for bird watching, or simply understanding these creatures in their natural habitat. There are seagulls, flamingos, vultures, sand grouse, kingfishers, plovers, owls and larks and flycatchers, beside other species.
There are animals such as the Arabian Oryx, Arabian wolf, striped hyena, mountain gazelle, and Blanford’s fox. Dhofar toad, Arabian toad, Cape hare, desert hedgehog and the long-eared hedgehogs also flourish here. Moreover, the mouse-tailed bat, Cheesman’s Gerbil and the Balochistan Gerbil can be located here.
As far as snakes are concerned there aren’t too many venomous species here. The saw scaled viper, the horned viper and the sand boa are some of the species found here. There are some desert snake species here too.
Besides being able to spot many animals, one can even go on guided hikes through the sanctuary. You will find the flora of this place equally impressive.
Dubai Zoo
The Dubai Zoo is another place you can visit to have a close look at the animals in the city. There are varied species of animals here and you can make a day trip out of it. You can have an amazing time cycling or walking past the animal enclosures and see them closely; Asiatic lions, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, Bengal tigers, hyenas, pumas and a number other species can be spotted at the zoo. You can have the time of your life clicking amazing pictures of these majestic animals and go back home with happy memories.
Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo
One of the major attractions in Dubai, Dubai Aquarium & Underwater Zoo, located in the Dubai Mall, houses a wide variety of aquatic animals, comprising more than 140 species. Over 300 sharks and rays live in this tank, which include the biggest collection of Sand Tiger sharks in the world. Guests can opt for a glass-bottom boat tour or a snorkelling cage to enjoy a unique experience here.
